Southern exploitation director Ron Ormond (The Exotic Ones; Please Don’t Touch Me) and associate producer of the 1950′s horror classic The Blob; Russ Doughten have something more in common than cult films… soul winning. Exploring the conversion of two directors into Christian independent filmmaking of the 1970s, Soul Winners chronicles the films (A Thief in the Night; Burning Hell) that scared the “hell” out of church congregations for decades and their lasting effects. Six suburban gear salesmen and one wolf dog trek to Michigan in the historic 2011 January. The goal is to build an igloo village while taking a break from the North American Gear Cooperative that has put them in each other’s path. The characters converge and diverge with different ranges of outdoor prowess from George’s Chicago upbringing in his Polish neighborhood, to Aaron’s Cascade mountaineering. The team comes together among the snowy, Midwestern backdrop of the Great Lakes region answering the call of the wild while trying to avoid a Wal-Mart run that is a few miles away. A modern day tale of male bonding, edited and directed by a woman. (Photo: George Stopka)
